What is Magdalene Life Drawing Society?
The society holds regular drawing sessions each Saturday from 7-8pm, in Buckingham Room, Magdlene College.
The group will consist of a live nude model in the centre of the room, with chairs seated around for those who wish to participate. The session will be made up of multiple poses to draw, with basic materials and music provided. However, bringing your own materials is encouraged to give rise to greater experimentation with different mediums.
The models are all professionally trained - no disrespect or harassment will be tolerated towards the models or the participants.
The sessions are open to all colleges, so if you have any friends who are interested please bring them along. We will charge £3 per session.
Anybody aged 18+ is welcome to come along, regardless of artistic ability. The finished pieces will be yours to take home.
This is not a drawing class - it is an independently-led session. There will be no artistic instruction
Materials provided:
Drawing boards; 4B Pencils; Erasers; Sharpeners; A2 Paper
Meet the Founder & President
My name is Em, and I am a second-year philosopher at Magdalene College. I founded the society because I wanted to bring my lifelong artistic passion to Cambridge.
I was a professional coloured-pencil artist and created bespoke portraits for 4 years. The pieces tended to be animal and wildlife portraiture, but I also received commissions for human portraits.
I wrapped up my business before leaving for University, and now complete commissions on an irregular basis. I regularly attend life drawing sessions in Leeds, where I live.
I hate feeling that I have traded in creativity to pursue academics. I hope that this society can be a beautiful way for the two disciplines to co-exist for all students at Cambridge.
